Americký prezident Donald Trump vo štvrtok oznámil, že sa v Bielom dome stretol s osobitným vyslancom Kremľa Kirillom Dmitrijevom. Po schôdzke vyhlásil, že sa pripravuje „veľká, krásna dohoda“, ktorá by sa netýkala len vojny na Ukrajine, ale mohla by zahŕňať celú Európu.
„Bude to dohoda, bude to veľká dohoda a bude sa týkať viac než len Ukrajiny... Mohla by zahŕňať dokonca celú Európu,“ povedal Trump. Dodal, že z výsledku budú všetci nadšení.

Obsah rozhovoru s ruským vyslancom však odmietol viac priblížiť. Potvrdil tiež, že sa nestretol s ukrajinskými predstaviteľmi, ktorí sa v tom čase nachádzali v Bielom dome.
Trumpove vyjadrenia môžu podľa AFP posilniť obavy európskych krajín, že americký prezident by mohol pri rokovaniach uprednostniť požiadavky Moskvy a tlačiť Kyjev do nevýhodnej dohody. Členské štáty NATO zároveň pozorne sledujú, či Trump nepristúpi na ruské požiadavky týkajúce sa obmedzenia amerického vplyvu v Európe.
Zástupcovia Ruska a Ukrajiny navštívili Biely dom pri príležitosti podujatia venovaného úsiliu prvej dámy USA Melanie Trumpovej o sprostredkovanie prímeria v ukrajinskom meste Olešky. Trumpová uviedla, že stretnutie a šesťdňové lokálne prímerie v meste a priľahlej Chersonskej oblasti by mohli byť krokom k širšej dohode.
